PNG Institute of Medical Research was established in 1968 in Eastern Highlands Province and has come a long way from its humble beginnings to be recognized today as a prestigious biomedical and social sciences research institution in Papua New Guinea, and globally recognized for its excellent work.

The IMR is a statutory institution of PNG Government, and is tasked with conducting research into the health problems with the ultimate goal of providing effective interventions which will lead to improvements in health and the control and prevention of diseases. Some of the areas the institute has conducted reseach during this time include kuru, malaria, pigbel, pneumonia, filariasis, cancer, respiratory diseases, nutrition, goitre and cretinism, leprosy, sexual health, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

PNGIMR will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in August 2018. The fiftieth colloquium will commemorate the occasion with researchers, both local and international, attending and presenting their work while reflecting on the challenges with contrast to the successes of the institute. The international contingent will include pioneer researchers whose foundation work has defined and shaped the institute and modern medicine locally and internationally.

Registration

Invited participants are required to register a month prior to the event by completing their registration forms and submit via email. Interetsted participants may send in your request to participate in the colloquium.
